November 23, 2009 (Chicago) – G. Edmond “Ned” Massie, IV, ALC, has been honored with the 2009 Robert C. Meeks, ALC, Distinguished Service Award by the REALTORS Land Institute, a national membership organization serving the leading professionals in land.
Massie is with Grant Massie Land Company in Richmond, Virginia, a firm that specializes in land brokerage, consulting, and community development services for Central Virginia. He also holds the prestigious Accredited Land Consultant (ALC) designation, conferred to only those land professionals who achieve the highest levels of education and experience.
The Robert C. Meeks, ALC, Distinguished Service Award is presented to an Accredited Land Consultant (ALC) in recognition of long-term commitment and service. “It is especially humbling to be receiving the Robert Meeks Award,” said Massie during his acceptance remarks, “because Bob Meeks himself was one of my mentors and true friends. It is a special honor to receive an award that bears his name.”
Keith Morris, 2009 National President of RLI, presented Massie with the Award at the organization’s Annual Convention, which was held in San Diego, in conjunction with the National Association of REALTORS Conference & Expo.
In his presentation of the award to Massie, Morris said, “Ned has served the REALTORS Land Institute for more than 30 years, volunteering his time and knowledge, serving as a national and chapter leader, and teaching countless students. He has distinguished himself as an outstanding professional in so many ways throughout his career that we cannot possibly recount his complete contribution to RLI and the land profession.”
Massie earned his ALC designation at the age of thirty and ten years later in 1989 served as national president of RLI. He was also president of the Virginia RLI Chapter in 1982 and again in 2005. At the age of only 40, he received RLI's prestigious Land REALTOR of America award, and later was awarded his state chapter's top honor of REALTOR of the Year. He is also the recipient of the Omega Tau Rho Medallion of Service from the Virginia Association of REALTORS.
An avid believer in professional development and education, Massie is an approved instructor for three of RLI’s Land University courses. He is the co-author of the Transitional Land Brokerage course and is currently updating the organization’s Land Development course. When he was president-elect of RLI, he researched, developed, and then chaired the task force which took the Institute’s new education program, RLI Land University, from concept to reality in only 11 months. He has also been honored as Educator of the Year for the Virginia Association of REALTORS.
He has earned a Masters in Business Administration, plus the CCIM designation and NAR’s new Green Designation.
Currently, Massie is a member of NAR’s Land Use Committee and has recently represented RLI at the REALTORS Commercial Alliance Summit, a series of events developed to create a strategic response to the challenges facing the commercial real estate industry.
His accomplishments and contributions toward the advancement of the real estate industry are matched by very few in the REALTOR family. Massie has been a mentor for many in the real estate and a true role model for professionalism in the land business.
